Signs of Recovery - Personal
• 66% (approximately) of the population in New Orleans has returned; the number for the four-parish area (Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard and St. Tammany) is about 84%.
• More than 60,00 residential building permits have been issued.
• More than 180,000 individuals & families have signed up for the Road Home program.
• 25 new public charter schools have opened in New Orleans, and an additional 11 are expected to open in fall, 2007.
• More than 1.1 million volunteers have donated 14 million hours of work in New Orleans, worth an estimated $263 million.
• 80% of the citizens in a recent survey believe that if people participate in the planning process and the plan is executed well, the region will be a good place to live again.
• 90%-plus of citizens surveyed support coastal restoration.
